Joy and Celebration

Joy and Celebration

Here's a little peek behind the first stole commission I completed.

The gold signifies Joy and Celebration, and is used for special days such as Easter Sunday, Christmas Days and the white signifies purity for saints who weren't martyrs.

Here's a few steps along the journey...

I started out with some sketches, and developed some ideas on my computer.

Then I took these into some experiments. I started out trying out some embroidery but this didn't work. So I decided it would be better to paint all the designs on. The challenge came when I realised the silk fabric didn't contain 100% silk after all so the silk paints didn't get absorbed properly - grrrr!

I changed my paints and continued on...

Once they were done I chose the gold and white fabrics to complement the design.

Then it was sewing time... to bring it all together... a scattering of sequins and Mum's hand embroidered cross sitting on the back of the neck, it was all complete:

Here is Nic modelling it for the first time... go sis!
